What Salsa verde means
Salsa verde is a Mexican salsa or sauce name of Spanish origin meaning "green sauce". It is built from Spanish salsa (sauce, from Latin salsus 'salted') and verde (green). It is pronounced SAL-sah VER-deh, and it is most associated with the whole country.
Salsa's root is the Latin word for salted, which is why the same word covers sauce and, much later, the music. The green comes from tomatillo, which is not an unripe tomato but its own fruit, Nahuatl miltomatl.
