Garibaldi is a Mexican bread name of Spanish origin meaning "Garibaldi, a surname". It comes from Italian surname Garibaldi (from Germanic gari 'spear' + bald 'bold'). It is pronounced gah-ree-BAHL-dee, and it is most associated with Mexico City.
Created at the El Globo bakery in Mexico City by an Italian confectioner and dedicated to Giuseppe Garibaldi, the hero of Italian unification. Patriotic readings of the white nonpareils are later embroidery; the dedication is the solid part.
