Refugio is a unisex name of Spanish origin meaning "refuge". It comes from Spanish refugio (refuge), from Nuestra Señora del Refugio (Our Lady of Refuge). It is pronounced reh-FOO-hee-oh.
Our Lady of Refuge of Sinners is especially venerated in Zacatecas and Jalisco; feast July 4. Given to both sexes, mostly women.
