What Margarita means
Margarita is a Mexican drink name of Spanish origin meaning "daisy, pearl". It comes from Spanish margarita (daisy; also pearl), from Latin margarita (pearl), from Greek margarītēs. It is pronounced mar-gah-REE-tah, and it is most associated with Jalisco.
The invention is claimed by several people at once, among them Carlos 'Danny' Herrera near Tijuana, Danny Negrete in Puebla and Margarita Sames in Acapulco. It may simply be a tequila Daisy, since daisy is what margarita means, and no claim has been settled.
