Caldo tlalpeño is a Mexican soup or stew name of Spanish origin meaning "Tlalpan-style broth". It is built from Spanish caldo (broth) and tlalpeño (from Tlalpan). It is pronounced KAL-doh tlal-PEH-nyoh, and it is most associated with Mexico City.
Tlalpan is a southern borough of Mexico City and its Nahuatl name means on the earth, from tlālli (earth) + -pan (on). The soup is said to have been sold to travellers on the Tlalpan road.
